Rachel is a Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Health Economics at Monash University. Her research is focused on understanding the impacts of natural disasters and extreme climate events on factors such as mental and physical wellbeing, coping and resilience, labour force responses, childhood education outcomes, and attitudes towards climate policy action. Rachel is experienced in working with large, complex databases and has expertise in micro-econometric techniques for causal identification and geo-spatial analysis.

Research in Indonesia shows that elevated night-time temperatures disturb sleep, hinder cognitive performance and increase impatience and irrational behaviour. These effects disproportionately impact vulnerable populations.
