Michael Gechter is an assistant professor in the Department of Economics at The Pennsylvania State University.

His research focuses on methodological issues in development economics. One strand of his work analyzes the external validity of causal effect estimates. The second concerns the effect of interactions between regulations, informality, and state capacity on allocative efficiency.
