Smriti Sharma is a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Economics at the Newcastle University Business School in England. She was previously a Research Fellow at United Nations University - World Institute for Development Economics Research (UNU-WIDER).
Her fields of specialization are behavioral economics, development economics, and labor economics. Within these fields, she has two areas of interest. First, a large part of her current and ongoing work is focused on the importance of behavioral traits and socioemotional skills as both predictors and outcomes in the process of economic development. Second, she has worked extensively on caste and gender-based discrimination. She uses observational and experimental data and have run lab experiments as well as artefactual field experiments. Her work focuses mainly on India and Vietnam.
