Akshay Mangla

Akshay Mangla is an Associate Professor of International Business at Saïd Business School at the University of Oxford. Prior to joining Oxford, he was an Assistant Professor at Harvard Business School. Akshay holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, an M.Sc. in Management Research from the University of Oxford, and a B.S. in Finance and B.A. in Philosophy from the University of Pennsylvania.
Akshay uses field-based methods to study the institutions and politics of inclusive development, with a focus on bureaucracy, public services, local governance and state-society relations. He is the author of the book, Making Bureaucracy Work: Norms, Education and Public Service Delivery in Rural India, published by Cambridge University Press (Cambridge Studies in the Comparative Politics of Education Series). His papers appear in the journals Asian Survey, Governance, Politics & Society, Public Administration & Development and Science, and in other outlets. His research has been supported by the Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL), the World Bank Sexual Violence Research Initiative, the Research England Global Challenges Research Fund, the American Institute for Indian Studies and the NSEP David L. Boren Fellowship.
