Andrés Moya is an Associate Professor at the School of Economics, Universidad de Los Andes in Bogotá, Colombia. He has a Ph.D. in Agricultural and Resource Economics from the University of California, Davis, and a Master’s and Bachelors’ degree in Economics from Universidad de Los Andes. He is serving as a Commissioner in the 2024/2025 Lancet Commission on Health, Conflict, and Forced Displacement.
Andrés is a Development Economist whose work focuses on understanding the consequences of conflict and forced displacement and how they can thrust people into poverty through economic, psychological, and behavioral mechanisms. He has also recent work on the integration of Venezuelan refugees in Colombia.
Andrés then builds upon this knowledge to design and evaluate interventions to mitigate some of these consequences and promote movements out of poverty. The prime example of this area of work is Semillas de Apego, a group-based psychosocial program for primary caregivers in communities torn by conflict and forced displacement, in which Andrés serves as the Director. The program aims to promote maternal mental health as an objective and as a pathway to foster early childhood development in communities exposed to conflict and forced displacement in Colombia. Currently, the program is being scaled in 15 municipalities and with 12,000 caregivers throughout Colombia.
