How can governments use environmental regulation to reduce pollution in low- and middle-income countries?

Pollution disproportionately impacts citizens in low- and middle-income countries, with significant negative effects on health and productivity. In these contexts, governments can use environmental regulations to build missing markets, but these efforts face numerous challenges, particularly in countries with low state capacity and less data. In this episode of VoxDevTalks, Rohini Pande and Nicholas Ryan discuss the agency problems, monitoring issues, and political economy considerations which factor into environmental regulation, and what policymakers can learn from economic research.

This episode is a collaboration with BREAD and IGC, who have designed a virtual PhD-level course which provides a comprehensive review of the economic questions relevant to climate change and economics of the environment.
