Archileo N. Kaaya
Professor, Department of Food Technology and Nutrition, Makerere University
Professor Archileo Kaaya holds a PhD in Food Science and Technology from Virginia Polytechnic & State University, USA/Makerere University; MSc in Postharvest Technology from Univ. of Florida, USA and a BSc in Agriculture from Makerere University. For over 30 years, he has been teaching and conducting research at Makerere University as well as community engagement within and outside the country. He is the former Head of Department of Food Technology and Nutrition (2011-2019) and Deputy Dean, Faculty of Agriculture (2009-2011) Makerere University.
His main areas of work have been in Postharvest Technology, Food Safety and Nutrition where he has published over 70 papers in refereed scientific journals and book chapters. He has supervised to completion 9 PhD and 26 MSc students. He has been a PI and Co-PI of over 50 international research projects that have generated scientific data which has been used in the national development and presented in over 100 international meetings. In 2018 he was the Winner, African Union Agent of Change for Aflatoxin Control in Africa in the category of Research and Technology and, in 2016, he was appointed Fellow of the Uganda National Academy of Sciences (UNAS). He has been External Examiner for 5 PhDs and over 20 MSc Theses/Dissertations.
Professor Kaaya chairs a number of Committees in the Country, belongs to 4 active Professional Bodies and he is the Head of Laity, Ggayaaza Parish, Kasangati Town Council, Wakiso District.
