Kathryn Vasilaky

Kathryn (Katya) Vasilaky is an Associate Professor of Economics and Faculty Affiliate at the Noyce School of Applied Computing, California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, and a Research Affiliate at the Climate School at Columbia University. Her research focuses on how groups, networks and cultural dynamics influence information exchange and technology adoption, and how these decisions differ by gender. Her work is situated in Sub-Saharan Africa, India, Central America, the US, and Ukraine. Dr. Vasilaky also conducts research at the intersection of computer science, machine learning and economics. She focuses on understanding how biases in data affect algorithms that present choices to individuals and how consumers then make their choices in an online setting. Dr. Vasilaky received a Ph.D. from the University of Maryland and B.A. from Columbia University.
