Marie Ruel
Senior Research Fellow, Nutrition, Diet and Health (NDH) Unit, IFPRI
Dr. Marie Ruel is currently a Senior Research Fellow in the Nutrition, Diet and Health (NDH) Unit at IFPRI. Prior to this appointment, she served as Director of the Poverty, Health, and Nutrition Division at IFPRI for nearly 20 years. Dr. Ruel worked for more than 35 years on policies and programs to alleviate poverty, food insecurity, and malnutrition in low- and middle-income countries. At IFPRI, she built a team and led a large research portfolio on the evaluation and strengthening of a range of multi-sectoral, nutrition-sensitive programs and policies. She is currently supporting, advising, and mentoring the nutrition team in IFPRI’s NDH unit and is involved in several research activities, including the CGIAR Sustainable Healthy Diets through Food Systems Transformation (SHiFT) program. Dr. Ruel served on various international expert committees, including the World Health Organization (WHO)’s Strategic and Technical Advisory Group of Experts (STAGE) on Maternal, Newborn, Child, Adolescent Health, and Nutrition, and the WHO Global Development Guideline Group on the prevention and treatment of wasting in infants and children. Dr. Ruel received the American Society for Nutrition Kellogg Prize for lifetime achievement in nutrition in 2019.
