Nishant Vats is a Ph.D. candidate in Finance at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He is an applied economist working on topics of corporate finance, banking, and entrepreneurship. One of the main themes of his research is finance and development. Broadly, he studies how frictions and features of financial products affect the behavior of economic agents such as firms and entrepreneurs using empirical analysis that exploit new datasets. In his most recent work, he examines the effect of guaranteed income programs on investment and the key role that credit markets play in this effect.
