A significant proportion of these resources are dedicated to constructing and enhancing transportation infrastructure, with the overarching goals of promoting market integration, spurring long-term productivity, and bolstering the competitiveness of local actors in global markets.
This VoxDevLit provides a comprehensive overview of recent policy-relevant land transportation findings in the academic literature, specifically focusing on assessing the economic impacts of land transport infrastructure at regional and intracity levels, and exploring how important transport infrastructure is to the economy. The survey draws on research using a range of empirical and theoretical methodologies to describe key evidence on the impacts of roads, railroads, metros, and Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) transportation systems in developing countries, including Brazil and those in Africa.
