Onesmo Selejio
Senior lecturer, Department of Economics, University of Dar es Salaam
Onesmo Selejio is a Senior Lecturer at University of Dar es Salaam School of Economics (UDSoE) and a Research Fellow at the Environment for Development (EfD), Tanzania. He holds PhD in Economics, Bachelor and Master of Science (Agricultural Economics). He has extensive teaching, research and consulting experience of over 17 years. Selejio has researched and published in areas of agriculture and agricultural economics/agribusiness, food security, development and poverty issues, microfinance, natural resources and environmental economics, project management and impact evaluation. Selejio has also provided consulting services in the same areas to a number of local and international organizations such as the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), United Nations Environment programme (UNEP), Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO), The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) and Uniliver Tanzania. At national level, Selejio has worked with teams that involved policy makers and academia to draft various government policy documents.
Apart from publishing in local and international journals, Selejio has co-authored and contributed chapters to books such as ‘How can Tanzania Move from Poverty to Prosperity? and ‘Fast-Tracking Industrialization in Tanzania: The Must Do Actions’. The books provide valuable inputs to policy analysis and decision-making, facilitating the achievement of the goals of the Tanzania Development Vision 2025 and beyond.
Selejio has also provided the consultancy services to a number of organizations including United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and The International Labor Organization (ILO). Other organisations are, French Development Agency (AFD), The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), Uniliver Tanzania, and Belgium Technical Cooperation (BTC). At national lever he works with teams that involve policy makers and academia to draft government policy documents such as preparation of National Five Year Development Plan and the Long Term Development Plan 2025. Apart from his publication in local and international journals, he has co-edited and contributed chapters to Books such as How can Tanzania Move from Poverty to Prosperity?
