Improving management quality in Indian schools, and thus student outcomes, has been a central task for policymakers. In this VoxDevTalk, Abhijeet Singh joins us to discuss his work with Karthik Muralidharan evaluating a comprehensive school management programme in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, which aimed to address poor management practices by independently assessing school quality and creating specific improvement plans. Their results reveal that despite high compliance, there was no impact on school-level processes or student learning outcomes.
