

Charles Gottlieb

Charles Gottlieb is an Associate Professor at the Aix-Marseille School of Economics. He was previously an assistant professor (non-TT) at the University of St-Gallen and a Nuffield postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Oxford. He received his PhD in economics from the European University Institute (Florence) in 2012.
His research focuses broadly on economic development and growth. He has built two unique cross-country micro-datasets, the Harmonized World Labor Force Survey (HWLFS) and the Harmonized World Time Use Survey (HWTUS). His current research combines these data with state-of-the-art macroeconomic models to progress our understanding of the global disparities in income. His research has been published in journals such as the Journal of Finance, the Journal of Development Economics, and the European Economic Review.

There are significant disparities across countries in the gender division of work even at similar income levels. Social, institutional, and policy choices play a pivotal role in the variation in gendered labour patterns across countries.
