Professor of Peace and Conflict Research, Uppsala University
Lisa Hultman is a Professor of Peace and Conflict Research at Uppsala University, Sweden. Most of her research revolves around two central themes: first, understanding violence against civilians and the dynamics of civil war violence; second, the response by the international community and the impact of various forms of interventions in addressing such violence. Methodologically, Hultman’s work is primarily based on quantitative research and she is the co-author of datasets like the Georeferenced Peacekeeping Operations (Geo-PKO) dataset and the Ethnic One-sided Violence dataset. Her research has been published in many top journals in political science and international relations, e.g. American Political Science Review and International Organization, and her co-authored book Peacekeeping in the Midst of War (Oxford University Press, 2019) received the APSA Conflict Processes Best Book Award. Hultman received her PhD in Peace and Conflict Research from Uppsala University in 2008. She has held research positions at the Swedish Institute of International Affairs and the Swedish National Defence College. She currently serves as Deputy Head of Department and has held multiple positions of trust, including serving on the editorial boards for several major journals, being a council member of the Peace Science Society (International) and the European Peace Science Society, and chairing a review panel for the Swedish Research Council.
